Ivan Parker's "Redeemer" : Inspiring Southern Gospel Music and Lyrics

Ivan Parker's, "Redeemer" project has been described by many as one of Southern Gospel's most inspirational. The songs on this CD cover a lot of territory in regards to message and style.

"I want to get a certain balance as far as messages are concerned. I try to - if I am going to do ten songs, I like to cover every kind of message I can think of", Ivan comments. "You know, somebody may not need the message of grace but may they need to listen a little further and hear the song of redemption".

Ivan Parker seems to have picked the right combination of messages for the "Redeemer" CD.

Here are the song titles and lyrics to Ivan Parker's, "Redeemer". There is a special note before the title track of the CD that I hope you will find interesting.

Lets Go To Church

Verse 1
Verse 1

Well you're finally at the place,
You remember long before.
Where your happiness is void,
and your spirit never soars.
And now your songs been long gone,
and you're living off earthly goods.
If you're ready to take that leap of faith,
Well let's go while the getting's good

Chorus

Get up, somebody said,
it's time to go to church
Wake up, cause I heard'em cry,
the spirit of God is passing by
Come on, don't hesitate cause something inside me can hardly wait
Get up, wake up, come on let's go to church

Verse 2

Well our God is so amazing
and God is really good
And from where I stand just looking in,
I see a change I knew I would
That hidden smile gone for awhile,
Has found a permanent dwelling place.
Don't know the reason why that I stopped by,
But I'm glad that I came to stay

Between Two Thieves

A MOMENT SUCH AS THIS

A Moment Such As This, Accompaniment CD

Verse 1
The family's at the table, everyone's in place
Grandma has to smile as their voices blend in thanks
Remembering the fevered brows, the hurts she's gently kissed
It's all been worth it for a moment such as this
Chorus
For a moment such as this she lives
She's sacrificed a lifetime to experience this bliss
She's right where she wants to be
She wouldn't want to miss
What she feels at a moment such as this
Verse 2

He's hanging on the cross in pain beyond belief
Jesus hears a cry for help coming from a wounded theif
And in His dying moments He gave Heaven as a gift
It's all been worth it for a moment such as this
Chorus 2
For a moment such as this He died
He spoke eternal life as He was crucified
He was where He had to be
So He wouldn't have to miss
What He felt at a moment such as this
Verse 3
He listens from the heavens to "Amazing Grace"
He sees a teardrop fall from a sinner's face
Because of His great sacrifice, mercy now exists
He did it all for a moment such as this
Chorus 3
For a moment such as this He lives
A past of sin and shame He cleanses and forgives
He's right where He needs to be so that we won't have to miss
How heaven feels at a moment such as this

IF YOU COULD SEE YOUR SELF

Verse 1
Sometimes I don't love myself
And sometimes I don't understand
When I look into the mirror
All I see is an unworthy man
Unworthy of the blessings
That flow from heaven above
Jesus softly whispers to my heart
Whenever I feel unloved
Verse 2
Sometimes you feel so burdened down
And your back is to the wall
There's nothing else that you can do
So on Jesus' name you call
And when that prayer breaks through heaven's floor
He can carry those burdens away
If Jesus stood before you right now
I believe that this is what He would say
Chorus
He says, child if you could see yourself through my eyes
You would see how much you are loved
You would see I carry a cross for you my child
If you could see these scars in my hands
Maybe you would understand
The reason that I gave my life
If you could see yourself through my eyes
Tag
When my prayer breaks thru heavens floor
And He carries my burdens away
If Jesus stood before you right now
I believe that this is what He would say

THE SIDE OF THE CROSS

Verse 1
Man owed God a debt, the curse of his sin
Blood had to be offered again and again
For atonement of sin, an innocent lamb
Could never begin to redeem fallen man
Verse 2
So year after year the priest would perform
Sacrifice on an alter that could not transform
But pictured and shadowed, Gods arm to the lost
His Son who would die on an old rugged cross
Chorus
I'm glad I'm living on this side of the cross
Where grace set's us free from the curse of the law
For Jesus blood covered it once and for all
I'm glad I'm living on this side of the cross
I'm glad I'm living on this side of the cross
Verse 3
Salvation by Grace, was offered to man
Whose faith looked ahead to the cross and the plan
But now looking back, from this side I see
By faith it is finished, thank God I am free
Bridge
Saved, Saved, Glory I'm Saved
My sin is all pardoned my guilt is all gone
Saved, Saved, Glory I'm Saved
I'm glad I'm living on this side of the cross

Ivan Parker released this song, "Redeemer" to Southern Gospel radio as a single. It was originally released by Nicole C. Mullen and was a huge hit in Contemporary Christian radio. Ivan's version of this song is wonderful. It also shows Ivan's desire to help grow the Southern Gospel music fan base by reaching out to a new audience. "We have to have something that will excite these kids about Southern Gospel music", states Ivan. I think that he did a great job at reaching out with this song.

REDEEMER

Verse 1
Who taught the sun where to stand in the morning
Who told the ocean, you can only come this far
And who showed the moon, where to hide til' evening
Whose words alone can catch a falling star
Chorus
Well I know, my Redeemer lives
I know, my Redeemer lives
All of creation testify, this life within me cries
I know, my Redeemer lives
Verse 2
That very same God that spins things in orbit
Runs to the weary, the worn and the weak
And the same gentle hands that hold me when I'm broken
They conquered death to bring me victory
Bridge
He lives to take away my shame
And He lives forever I'll proclaim
That the payment for my sin Was the precious life He gave
But now He's alive and there's an empty grave

I’VE ENJOYED THE JOURNEY

Verse 1
Came to a river that was deep and wide
But I made it to the other side
For my Lord like at the red sea shore
Parted the water for this child once more
Chorus
I've enjoyed the journey walkin' with my Lord
When the enemy surrounds me, He is my shield and sword
There's no need to worry no need to fret
He will never leave me and He's never failed me yet
I've enjoyed the journey walkin' with my Lord
Verse 2
He is before me He is guiding the way
My fire by night and my cloud by day
Every morning it's a joy to awake
This life is sweeter every step I take
Tag
Well I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now
Gotta make it to heaven some how
Though the devil temps me and tries to turn me around
He's offered everything that's gotta name
All the wealth I'd want or wordly fame
I've enjoyed the journey walkin' with my Lord

YOU RAISE ME UP

Verse 1
When I am down and oh my soul so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me
Chorus
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
Verse 2
There is no life, no life without its hunger
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly
But when you come and I am filled with wonder
Sometimes I think I glimpse eternity

Ivan Parker has never recorded a bad Southern Gospel song. As you see by reading the lyrics to his music, there is indeed a message for everyone. As Ivan Parker told me, "We Christians go through different things and i like to be able to do a balance of messages - so that there are (10) different sermons (on the CD)".

Combining great lyrics, great music and a voice that exudes the warmth of Christ and it's no wonder that Ivan Parker is Southern Gospel Music's favorite male soloist.
