Southern Gospel Legends The Kingsmen Release "When God Ran"

The Kingsmen are one of Southern Gospel Music’s most popular groups. They have helped define what Southern Gospel music is today. The Kingsmen have roots that date back to 1956. Their status as one of the all time great Southern Gospel quartets is evidenced by the Grammy nominations, four Dove Awards and their induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

The current line up of the Kingsmen includes Ray Reese - bass, Brandon Reese - drummer, Bryan Hutson - baritone, Phillip Hughs – lead, and Harold Reed - tenor. This talent group has just released a new CD entitled, “When God Ran”. “When God Ran” shows this wonderful group in top form.

The first single, “When God Ran” is a long song at over five minutes – long by Southern Gospel Music standards. After listening to the song it seems that it is over way to fast. “When God Ran” is bound to be the first number one song for the Kingsmen since their number one song “God Sits on High” when they were briefly called “The Carolina Boys” (They’ve always been the Kingsmen to me.) Listen for the Kingsmen’s latest single on your favorite Southern Gospel radio station.

Lyrics To "When God Ran"

When God Ran By Benny Hester and John Parenti
As sung by The Kingsmen
From the CD, "When God Ran"

Almighty God,
The great I am
Omnipotent, powerful, awesome God
Victorious warrior commanding King of Kings
Mighty conqueror
And the only time
The only time I ever saw Him run
Was when He ran to me
He took me in his arms
Held my head to His chest
Said, “My son’s come home again”
And lifted my face
Wiped a tear from my eyes
With forgiveness in his voice
He said “Son do you know I still love you?”
He caught me by surprise
When God ran

The day I left home
I knew I’d broken His heart
I wondered if, if things would ever be the same
Then one night
I remembered His love for me
Down a dusty road ahead I could see
It was the only time
The only time I ever saw Him run
Was when He ran to me
He took me in his arms
Held my head to His chest
Said, “My son’s come home again”
And lifted my face
Wiped a tear from my eyes
With forgiveness in his voice
He said “Son do you know I still love you?”
And it brought me to my knees
When God ran

I saw Him run to me
I was so ashamed all alone and so far away
But know I know he’s been waiting for this day

When God ran to me
He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest
Said, “My son’s come home again”
And lifted my face
Wiped a tear from my eyes
With forgiveness in his voice

I felt His love for me again
He ran to me
Held my head to His chest
Said, “My son’s come home again”
And lifted my face
Wiped a tear from my eyes
With forgiveness in his voice
He said, “Son”
My God called me son!
He ran to me
He ran to me
He ran to me
He ran to me
He ran to me
He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest
And said, “My son’s come home again”
And I ran to Him
When God ran
