McKamey's, "God on the Mountain", Classic Southern Gospel Song Stands Test of Time
The McKamey’s, “God on the Mountain” is one of Southern Gospel Music’s most beloved songs. Winner of “Song of the Year” in 1988, “God on the Mountain” has been recorded by many artists including Lynda Randle for the Gaither Homecoming Series. My favorite version of the song is the live version from 1989’s Gone to Meetin' LIVE CONCERT If you have ever seen the McKameys live you know that Peg does get excited. Indeed she has been known to get so excited that she takes her shoes off and shakes them. I had to ask her how that got started. Peg laughed and smiled, “I don’t know how that got started. Sometimes I feel like they are bothering me and I just slip them of and there’s been a lot of things told about that – people tease me and request me to take my shoes off and I tell them if I get caught up (in the Holy Spirit) and get excited its untelling what I might do.”
I laughed and told her that when the McKameys get inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame they need to bronze one of her shoes for a display. “God on the Mountain” is a song that speaks to situations and circumstances that we all face. It is a song that encourages and gives hope. I pray that the lyrics will minister to you as they have to me.

Lyrics to "God on the Mountain"as performed by the McKameysVerse 1 Life is easy, when your up on the mountain And you’ve got peace of mind Like you’ve never known But then things change andyour down in the valley Don’t lose hope for your never alone
Chorus For the God on the mountain is still God in the valley When things go wrong He’ll make them right And the God of the good times, is still God of the bad times And the God of the day is still God of the night Verse 2 You talk of faith when your up on the mountain Oh, but the talk comes so easy When life’s at its best But its down in the valley of trials and temptations That’s where faith is really put to the test
Repeat Chorus 2 times And the God of the day is still God of the night
